Description
This book is a compilation of essays about Asian and Pacific Islander American history, from earliest settlement to the present. It is intended to provide context material for the nomination of related properties as National Historic Landmarks (NHL). The NHL program has been administered by the National Park Service for more than 80 years. The book was edited by historian Franklin Odo, who is the former director of the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Program and now teaching in the American Studies Department at Amherst College. Essays in the book were contributed by seventeen additional scholars, whose areas of expertise encompass Asian and Pacific Islander American history and culture, including immigration, social, economic, political and legal history, as well as archaeology, architecture, landscape architecture, and the performing arts.--Provided by the publisher.
